WHY SOLAR ENERGY IS NOT WIDELY USED IN INDIA?

There are some facts about solar energy. The facts are- they are renewable source of energy, they are available in huge amount, it is available at free of cost. But besides these facts, they are not widely used in India.

Actually, along with the positive attributes, it has some negative points also. These negative things are associated with its availability, its efficiency, and indirectly with its price, etc. Let’s discuss some of the issues.

SOLAR ENERGY-NOT EASY TO AFFORD

As everybody knows Sunlight is available to everyone free of cost. There is no price for it. But still, it is very expensive. If you compare the prices of the solar system with the other electrical gadgets, then you can get to know that this energy is really expensive.

There are two main places where the prices are involved- one is in the installation of the solar system and the other in the maintenance of it. If you do the installation of the rooftop solar system then it requires a long time investment. Semiconductor materials are costly. These need to present in solar panels.

SOLAR ENERGY-NOT A CONSTANT SOURCE OF ENERGY

Solar energy is not available every time. You can’t rely on this renewable source of energy. Earth receives a different amount of light throughout the day. So eventually you can say that the amount of light in a year is also not constant. Therefore it is very difficult to do anything based on this sunlight. So even for capturing a small amount of sunlight you need a big surface of solar panels. It’s very difficult to reach the target amount of energy.

INEFFICIENT TECHNOLOGY

There are two ways in which sun’s energy generates electricity. First is-by using photovoltaic cells. Second is-by using the heating turbines. Photovoltaic cells use direct sunlight and produce electricity. They are very costly and also don’t work very effectively. The second method turns the turbines, but they are also not very effective.

AFFECT THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE NEGATIVE MANNER

It is very hard to believe that this sun’s energy could be harmful to humankind. But believe me, it does. For the manufacturing of the solar panels you need certain materials and this method of manufacturing is not healthy. It causes adverse effects. Solar panels have large surfaces and therefore it requires a big space. So if you want to increase the consumption of solar power then you need more space. So there is wastage of spaces.

MAINTENANCE COST AND TIME REQUIRE

Every time you need to keep the solar panel clean. From time to time you need to clear-up all the debris. You need to maintain all these things if you want your solar system to work effectively. Cleanliness requires time. If you don’t do this then its efficiency will not be up to the level. Nowadays for everyone, it’s not possible to find time for cleaning.  Moreover, this process requires money also.

But we all should work together and overcome these solar energy-related problems. Let’s make this renewable source of energy a boon to humankind.
